Flydigi Apex 5 Not Recognized When Plugged In
When plugged into a PC or another device via USB-C, the Flydigi Apex 5 does not connect to the device or is not recognized as a controller.
Not Charged
If Flydigi Apex 5’s LEDs and display screen turn fail to turn on when connected to another device, it may not be charging properly. Without power it will not be recognized by other devices. If that is the case, please consult the Flydigi Apex 5 Not Charging troubleshooting page first.
Incorrect Input Mode
You can switch the controller between different input modes in order to connect it to a range of devices. If the input mode is not properly set for the device you intend to connect the device to, there may be connection issues. Change the input mode by holding down the button that looks like the Flydigi logo until the device's menu appears on its LCD screen. From there, navigate to the Connect tab and change the input mode to the correct device.
Outdated Drivers
If the controller successfully connects to a computer, but it is recognized as a device other than a controller, such as a keyboard, then the issue is likely outdated drivers on the computer; A computer without the proper drivers will not properly interface with the controller. Non-Windows devices are more likely to incorrectly recognize the controller. Update the computer to the most recent version of its operating system to resolve the issue.
Outdated Firmware
If the controller successfully connects to and is recognized by some devices, but not others, the issue may be outdated firmware on the controller. To check for firmware updates, navigate to Flydigi's official website and download the v4.x version of the Flydigi Space Station software on a device that the controller can connect to. Connect the controller to that device and run the Space Station program. From there, navigate to the firmware download tab by clicking on the icon resembling your controller next to the settings (gear) icon at the top right of the screen.
Faulty USB-C Cable
USB-C cables are prone to wearing from frequent use including bending and repeatedly being inserted or removed from ports. A worn USB-C cable may be responsible for this issue if:
- The USB cable does not function properly for connecting devices other than the controller.
- Connecting the USB-A end of the cable to different ports on the second device does not resolve the issue.
- The Flydigi Apex 5 is temporarily recognized by your computer when the USB-C cable is first plugged in or moved. Please note that this will not occur with all damaged cables and wiggling the cable can damage your controller’s USB-C port so you should not intentionally try to reconnect the controller to your PC in this way.
To resolve this issue, replace the existing USB-C cable with a standard USB-C to USB-C or an USB-C to USB-A cable that supports power and data transfer.
Faulty USB-C Port
If replacement of the USB-C cable does not resolve the connection issue, the problem may be the USB-C port on the controller itself. Try fixing the charging port from the outside by cleaning out lint or debris from the port with a toothpick or compressed air.
To replace the USB-C port without soldering, follow the Flydigi Apex 5 USB-C Daughterboard Replacement guide.
