Device Won’t Turn on ¶
The device seems to be turned off and seems to be unresponsive to all user input.
Drained Bad Battery ¶
If your device wont turn on, especially if it has not been used recently your battery may be drained. Plug into your computer or AC adapter and see if anything happens. Ideally we are looking for the screen to light up with the symbol of a battery on it to indicate that it is charging. If this symbol is not visible at first or when the power button is pressed, then double check the connection. If you are sure you are plugged in and no symbol appears and the screens back light does not turn on then the battery may be defective and may need to be replaced.
Bad Display ¶
If your device won't turn on in the traditional sense, meaning there is no indication from the screen when the power button is held in or when the device is plugged in it is possible the display is bad. In order to isolate the problem one should plug their device into a computer using a USB cord and attempt to turn it on. Ideally what we are looking for is an indication that the computer can see the device and recognize that its is powered on. If the computer sees the device yet there continues to be know indication from the screen we should check to see if the connection between the motherboard and screen is good and if so we should replace the faulty display. (we stock Displays and offer instructions for installing them)
Volume and/or Power Button Not Working ¶
When attempting to power the device on/off or turning the volume up/down the device does not respond.
Power Button Not Working ¶
If your devices power button is unresponsive first, ensure that your device has power. Plug the device into a power source and check the power button. If the problem persists the power button cap (The physical button that you press) may be unseated. To check to see if your devices power button cap is unseated, gently wiggle it. If your power button cap was unseated, then you will feel the button slide back into place. Check to see if the problem persists, if it does you will need to remove the back panel. (link). Once you have removed the back panel, inspect the upper-right-hand corner and locate the power button cap. Check to see if the power button cap is broken or cracked, if this is the case it will need to be replaced. If the power button cap is in good condition, then locate the power button on the devices motherboard. The power button is located on the top left hand corner of the motherboard if you have the screen face down. Check the area around the power button for signs of damage. If there are signs of corrosion (brown or green residue) or heat damage (charring and possibly black residue) than the motherboard will need to be replaced.
Disconnected or Not Making Contact with Switch ¶
If the button/s on the exterior of the device are not making a "clicking sound", the buttons might be misplaced within the device; this can be fixed but simply opening the back cover and re-positioning the button/s into proper place.
Touch Screen Unresponsive ¶
When the device is turned on and both the power/volume buttons are working but the touch screen is unresponsive.
Broken Sensor ¶
If it is confirmed that the sensor is connected properly and there is no water damage or topical presence on the touch screen, yet it still proves to be malfunctioning, then you may have a broken sensor. You can confirm this by opening up the device and if there is notable damage in the ribbon cable (such as a tear or rip) or notable damage to the white rectangular box (such as fried pins etc.) then the sensor is broken and may need to be replaced replaced.
Disconnected Sensor ¶
If sensor has been disconnected, the front screen must be removed in order to reach the sensor; this is possible by simply popping off the back cover (link), and proceeding by looking for the cable that is to be found on the bottom left portion of the back and is measured to be approximately 5/8 inches, or 1 and 1/2 centimeters wide. Once this point has been reached, there is a black tape film that may be covering the cable; this film must be removed off of this area. A small rectangular, white box will then appear with 2 attached black tabs. in order to reconnect the sensor, both tabs next to the rectangular box must be open; this will allow for the cable to slide back into the opening slit in the rectangular box. Once the cable has been placed within the slit, the two tabs must then immediately be closed in order to ensure the cable is fixed within the rectangular box. Place tape and back cover on once again and start up the device.
Water Damage or Topical Presence ¶
With the device in front of you inspect the screen for signs of water or other liquid substances/residues. Then thoroughly clean the screen and ensure that it is dry. Once the screen is clean and free of all debris or residue see if the Touch screen responds. If not, then the back panel must be removed. Once the back panel is removed, carefully remove the black tape attached to the ribbon cables that are located near the bottom of the motherboard. After removing the tape check to ensure that all of the ribbon cables are properly seated and inspect each one for signs of water damage. If there is water damage, there will be visible corrosion on the metal surfaces where the cables are seated. If there is corrosion it will need to be cleaned. Before attempting to clean the corrosion, power the device off. Once the device is turned off use either a tooth brush or something similar to gently remove the corrosion. after doing this check to see if the problem persists. If the problem persists after cleaning the corrosion or there are signs of charring that indicate heat damage, the motherboard will have to be replaced.
No Audio or Distorted Audio ¶
No sound coming from device and/or any sound that does come from the device is distorted in some way.
If no sound is heard through the headphones when they are plugged in, or through the speaker when there are no headphones present, or any of the sound being heard is distorted.
System Sound is Muted (Software Problem) ¶
Swipe down on the screen from the upper right hand side and select settings. When settings open, scroll down and select sound. From there go to volumes, a slider bar window will open and on the top will be a blue circle labeled 'music, video, games & other media'. One can then tap and drag to adjust the volume and unmute the sound.
Speaker is Blocked ¶
One of the possibilities for distorted or muffled sound when attempting to play audio through the device speaker, is that the speaker grill is blocked, covered or obstructed. The best way to find out if this the case is to flip the device screen down and look on the bottom right for the speaker grill which has a total of eight circular holes and five oval holes. If you have decorated your device with stickers or a third party case it might be best to remove any stickers in the general lower right or remove the case to see if the sound being played seizes to be distorted. If the removal of obstructions does not improve the sound quality the speaker may be at fault and may need to be replaced; refer to bad headphones/speaker below to confirm this.
Bad Headphones ¶
If the sound being played through your headphones is distorted, then we'll need to rule out that they are faulty by testing them on another device. If using the same headphones on a different device produce the same distortion, then perhaps a new pair of headphones is necessary.
Bad Audio Jack ¶
If the sound being played through your headphones is distorted; or perhaps when testing your headphones on a different device, the distortion seizes, the auto jack may be faulty. we recommend using a second pair of headphones that are a different brand to confirm if the distortion continues. If a second pair of headphones or a different audio file does not alleviate the issue, the audio jack is bad and can be fixed by replacing the motherboard.
Device Boots into Recovery Mode ¶
This is a mode that the device enters under certain conditions. Indicated by "Android Recovery" at the top.
Accidentally booting into Recovery Mode ¶
This is a perfectly normal occurrence it happens when the volume and power buttons are pressed down at the same time during the boot sequence. Simply use the volume buttons to scroll through the menu, highlight 'reboot system now' and use the power button to select.
Software Corruption ¶
If the device boots into recovery mode every time and the option "Reboot system now" returns you to recovery mode it is possible that the operating system may have been corrupted. This is purely a software problem that can be fixed by using the volumes keys to scroll down to "Wipe data/factory reset" and using the power button to select it. This will wipe the device of all of it's data and reset it to the condition that it was in when it was unboxed for the first time.
