8BitDo Pro 2 Joystick is Unresponsive
The 8BitDo Pro 2 joystick is unresponsive, stuck, or does not register movement when being used.
Incorrect Input Mode
If the controller is set to the wrong input mode, the joystick may not respond properly or at all.
Check the mode-switching toggle on the back of the controller and make sure it matches the device you are using.
After switching modes, reconnect the controller to your device. Then test the joystick again to see if input is detected.
Not Calibrated Correctly
If the joystick is not centered correctly or is not registering movement correctly, it may need to be recalibrated.
Connect your controller to a device and open the controller settings or the calibration menu. Follow the instructions on the screen to recalibrate the joystick.
You can also use the 8BitDo Pro 2 Ultimate Software to either reset or adjust the joystick sensitivity.
After calibration, test the joystick to make sure it is responding correctly.
Debris Underneath the Joystick
If the joystick feels sticky, stiff, or won't move correctly, it may be caused by small particles, dirt, or food stuck underneath or near the base of the joystick.
Start by moving the joystick in all different directions to see if it will loosen with use. If that doesn't work, inspect the area that is around the base of the joystick for any visible debris that might be stuck. Use a dry cotton swab to gently clean around the area. You could also use a small amount of air to help remove any particles from areas that are hard to reach.
Avoid using excess liquid, as it could cause further damage.
If the joystick is still not moving correctly, debris might be trapped inside the controller. If this happens, you may need to open the controller to remove any debris, see the joystick replacement guide for more information.
Internal Joystick Failure
If the joystick does not respond after cleaning, the internal mechanism might be damaged.
Test the joystick through playing a game or through the device’s controller settings to confirm that there is no input being detected.
If there is no response, then the joystick module or the internal button mechanism may be broken.
Replace the joystick module, see the joystick replacement guide for more information.
