Video Overview

The last LG phone we tore down was the very modular LG G5, which was super easy to take apart and scored an impressive 8 out of 10 on our repairability meter. But that was then—what have we now? Let’s tear down the new LG G7 ThinQ.

This teardown is not a repair guide. To repair your LG G7 Thin Q, use our service manual.

    Final Thoughts
    • Lots of components are modular and can be replaced independently.
    • The battery can be replaced, but adhesive and a glued-on rear panel make it unnecessarily difficult.
    • Front and back glass make for double the crackability, and strong adhesive on both makes it tough to access the internals for any repair.
    • Screen repair, the most common type repair, is not prioritized, requiring an almost complete disassembly while battling tough adhesive.
    Repairability Score
    Repairability 4 out of 10
    (10 is easiest to repair)

Good luck to you.

when the back glass cover is replaced after it is cracked and then pried off, how do you achieve “water proof” again”? Thank you

You have to install new adhesive.

little gotcha - the replacement kit did NOT come with the side buttons. sadly i moved everything out of the old case into the new case before realizing this, and had to disassemble again. to get your old buttons out, pull up the enclosing black tabs on the sides, pry up the silver stuff with a guitar pick, and push them out from inside (careful or they will go flying). then replace those parts into the new case… working on it right now :D

what type of adhesive is required to attach the back glass and reseal for IP rating?

That back glass is brutal. I had it on a hot plate up to 80 Celsius and it still cracked going around one of the corners.
