Installing iMac Intel 27" EMC 2429 Dual Drive Kit (HDD or SSD)

Difficult

My Problem

My Mac was running too slow for having a state of the art processor, 12 gb of ram and a nice video card. I do a lot lf photoshop editing and I was sick and tired of being bogged down by my HD speed. I learned about ssd's several years back, but they were so expensive and didn't last very long. Now the prices have come down tremendously and I went ahead and bit the bullet. Can't say I regret anything!!

My Fix

Easiest job I've ever done. Never worked on a computer before, took me an hour and ten minutes from the time I took the glass screen off till the time I reinstalled it. Booted up, installed mavericks and apples time machine backup made it easier than ever to transfer certain files to SSD (like apps and anything my OS needed to read heavily) and other files back onto the 1TB internal hdd (such as iPhoto library and iTunes.) this process took the longest at around 4 hours as I have over a TB of music, apps, photos and videos combined.

My Advice

Don't take the logic board out. Just unscrew it, and bend it slightly towards you. That way you don't have all those "It took forever to realign the logic board" complaints. That seemed to me to be the most general complaint and I didn't have that problem at all. Also, plugging in USB will help you to realign it if necessary.
