No Savings This Time. Will save $20 Next Time

My Problem

Macbook Air Battery changeout. OS is telling me I need to replace the battery soon.

My Fix

Easy-peasy. Japanesey.

Need the pentalobe screw driver to get the outside screws. Need the Torx screw driver to get the inside screws. Pop out the battery, pop in the new one. More screwing and Bob is your uncle.

My Advice

The cost of the iFixit Battery Replacement: $109.

Cost of pentalobe and Torx Screw drivers: $20.

Cost of having Apple do it: $129.

So the net gain is that I now have 2 screwdrivers to be able to pull this off again in 3-years.

There's some fuel savings from not having to drive to the Apple Store.

Time-savings is a wash.

Overall, I'm not afraid to open up my Macbook Air anymore.
