preserving an antique Mac

francismuir -

My Problem

I'm too old to toss things out. so, having just heard that my MacBook4,1 is too ancient for Mountain Lion, I cast around to see what else I might do to bring my laptop into the present day.

My Fix

So:

1. Recovered LION

2. Downloaded CCC

3. Bought Crucial 128GB SSD M4

4. Bought Sata/USB cable

5. Bought ifixit 2 required drivers

6. Downloaded ifixit guide on HD install

7.Connected SSD to Mac via SATA/USB cable

8. Partitioned and formatted SSD

9. Used CCC to clone Mac to SSD (includung recovery)

10. Booted from SSD as check

11. Swapped out HD and SSD using ifixit stuff

12. Booted.

GADZOOKS, it all world and Mac is now faster than

My Advice

Take pleasure in doing stuff yersel', let ifixit hold your hand, and:

Toss out your HDs and replace them with SSDs
