Nexus 6 Motherboard Replacement

20 minutes

Moderate

My Problem

I dropped my nexus bringing in groceries, which smashed the screen. I replaced the screen myself but broke a connector on the motherboard in the process! I bought a new motherboard from iFixit and now, at last, my Nexus lives again. It was a horrible two weeks without it.

My Fix

I broke a connector when I was installing the digitizer! The ZIF socket on the original motherboard was pretty much destroyed so I had to order another through iFixit, and the replacement mobo works great. I'm very pleased now.

My Advice

Carefully inspect the ZIF sockets before you manipulate them! Be absolutely certain which parts articulate before you go pushing around with your tools! I snapped some of the gold contacts off of the display connector on the mobo, destroying the mobo and creating the phantom-of-the-opera effect in the photo above.
