My Problem
Friend's hdd in her iMac died. Another techy friend of ours said she needed to send it away to a company that would forensically recover her data, and cost upwards of 600$. I disagreed.
My Fix
Bought some suction cups to take the screen off, and a new hdd, then spent about half an hour taking the mac apart and installing the new drive. Those screws suck, but the rest of the process was simple.
Reinstalled OSX and copied most of her data back onto the new drive with a SATA-USB adapter.
My Advice
Make sure to get magnetized torx drivers.
