Not without casualties, but all in all a good experience.

My Problem

Battery wouldn't hold a charge, so the ipod had to be plugged in (to the wall, to the car, to the computer) to work. Often, I would have to leave it plugged in for a half-hour or so to build up enough charge to turn on. Cold weather shut the thing down entirely.

My Fix

It wasn't the easiest thing in the world, but it was done in a half-hour. I recommend the Xacto knife method (I actually used a small pocket knife at first to work my way into the seam, and then used some handy metal collar stays to create extra space as I worked my way around the tabs). Like I said, it wasn't easy, but once you get the idea, you can proceed without fear of damaging the device.

My Advice

Main piece of advice would be to BE CAREFUL prying out the old battery. That adhesive is stubborn, and if you aren't super cautious and slow, you'll end up severing the Hold button circuit -- which runs underneath -- and that's exactly what I did. Oops. But if an unresponsive hold button is the price I paid for a fully functioning batter, I call that a deal.
