Moderate

My Problem

The iPod's battery would no longer hold a charge and eventually, the iPod wouldn't turn on anymore.

My Fix

The repair took me about 40 minutes - about 20 of those minutes were spent trying to get the front cover off (some of the retaining clips were very stubborn on mine). From there, it was about 10 minutes to replace the battery and 10 more minutes to put everything back together (reattaching the ribbon cables is tricky).

My Advice

Be careful (and patient) while removing the old battery. It is attached to the casing with a glob of glue. A section of the hold switch ribbon sits under the battery and it looks to be easily damaged if you're not careful while prying the old battery out.

One thing I noticed during my repair is that the replacement battery was slightly longer than the old battery. I had to reshape it a bit to get it to fit.
