My Problem
My iPod is a 5th generation iPod I received as a gift nearly ten years ago. Over the years the battery life dwindled and until recently it would only hold a charge for thirty minutes top. I was looking into buying a completely new iPod until I found the ifixit website.
My Fix
The repair looked a little more risky than I originally thought, particularly since the only battery swaps I'd performed in the past were for simple hand held appliances (i.e., AA and AAA batteries). I watched the video provided by ifixit and then went to work. It took about ten minutes to make the fix and now my iPod is back to its full battery strength of nearly nine hours. And at the end of the day the battery cost and kit saved me over $100 at least in having to buy a new iPod.
My Advice
The battery connections are more fragile than what most consumers are used to dealing with, so I would recommend that anyone who uses this just take their time and exercise care in handling the iPod.
