Replacing HDD in 2014 MacMini7,1

Graeme P2 -

My Problem

I purchased a cheap 2014 MacMini knowing it had a failed HDD. I replaced the HDD with a 460Gb SSD.

I run the MacMini off a SD card with OSX 10.10 installed on it until I had gathered all the parts I needed. (It actually runs well off a SD card but you do need to ensure the card has a fast Read/Write rate e.g. SanDisk Extreme Pro 32Gb

My Fix

Instructions were perfect although I didn't need tool to extract motherboard - a couple of small screwdrivers did the job. I inadvertently separated the SATA connection plug which connects to the HDD but was able to carefully push it back together once I realised what I had done. The job took about 40minutes. The Mac mini goes real well now with latest OSX El Capitan (10.11) installed.

My Advice

Next step would be to locate a converter plate so I can add in a PCIe Drive.

Watch you don't separate the SATA plug like I did !!!
