Short battery life, especially when cold
My Fix
Opening the case was a huge challenge! I ended up bending most and breaking one of the tabs on the back. Actual battery replacement was straight forward enough. I had to open it again the next day because the battery wasn't charging. I re-seated the battery cable. Horror of horrors: I pulled the battery ribbon cable connector off its pins on the circuit board... but , luckily, I got it back on. iPod takes a charge and all functions A-OK

Read and re-read all steps and comments !!!
Slow and steady while opening the case !
Hold down center of battery cable connector while lifting brown lock !!!
