Very difficult

My Problem

I was on a road trip and was unloading the car, when my iPad slipped out of my hand. I put my foot underneath to break the fall, but it still hit the pavement on the corner. The glass had 3 cracks radiating from that corner. I lived with it for a few months and then heard about iFixit.

My Fix

I had quite a bit of trouble getting the old screen off. The adhesive was very difficult to loosen, even with the heated gel pack. I resorted to using a hair dryer and that worked better. I think the adhesive was so old that is was gummier that normal. Once I got the old screen off (it took about 2 hours!) the rest of the process went much more quickly. I turned on the iPad before I adhered the new screen to make sure I had gotten everything connected properly. It worked!

My Advice

The instructions for getting the old screen off were very clear and the pictures helped quite a bit. I was disappointed when we got to the reassembly part, and the instructions merely stated, "...do the reverse" in order to get it all back together. It's not that simple, and took some time to figure out what to do. I would recommend having some instructions for the reassembly.
