It's definitely a bit more advanced repair than usual

My Problem

I dropped my iPad mini 2 (retina) and completely shattered the digitizer.

My Fix

Obviously due to cracked screen, I couldn't use suction cup to open the display but rather hand picked each pieces so that took about 1.5 hours. Afterwards, I followed the iFix it guide and had a fairly simple disassembling process, except the part where I had to pull the LCD panel off of the adhesive to flip the panel - I was stuck in the step for a long time because I didn't know how much of giving was there to pull. I'd wanted to see more detailed explanation on that specific step. Eventually I was able to put it back only to find out I messed up LCD panel... :( So... a couple more days of waiting for another part, I was finally able to get my iPad back up and running.

My Advice

WEAR GLOVES! Doesn't matter if you are used to taking things apart. Wear gloves and also make sure you discharge any statics. Be EXTREMELY gentle when you handle LCD panel. If you think you are being careful, well.. double that!
