My Problem
After having dented almost every exposed surface on his iPad mini after three years of abuse, my son finally managed to shatter the screen. Since Apple wanted $200 to fix it, I ordered a replacement kit from iFixit to do the job.
My Fix
The kit came in less than a week, and included almost everything needed for the replacement (I just needed a bit of extra double-sided tape and a penknife) . The directions were clear, and the repair was straightforward, but a bit tedious in separating all of the parts glued together and cleaning out the glass shards.
My Advice
Keep your fingers off the back of the digitizer by leaving the protective film on the back until the last minute, and have a lint-free cloth on hand to wipe dust off of the LCD panel before re-assembly. Don't forget the magnets, and make sure you have a bit of extra double-sided tape on had to secure these to the new front panel.
