My Problem
I fixed it, because it would have been a shame not to. My iPod was in good shape, except for a worn out battery, a non-functional home button and some serious scratches all over the metal (but not the glass). Why throw away 32GB worth of music player?
My Fix
It went very well! Figured out that you can even use the tip of one of the metal spudgers to unscrew the tiny phillips screws inside the ipod.
My Advice
Be careful when removing the battery using spudgers - the glue was quite strong in my case and I ripped the battery open while removing it.
