Stories

My Problem

Replaced LCD screen on iPhone 4. The panel was shattered and the phone was disable.

My Fix

The repair went smooth, but the replacement display lacks the adhesive to form a tight fit. One of the 4 tabs on the new LCD replacement broke off very easy trying to fit the LCD into place.

My Advice

The instructions don't tell you to make sure that you remove the plastic lens from the front facing camera.

My Problem

Cracked glass is a pain - even on t he back. The kit had everything I needed. a fast, 10 minute fix by an 12 year old.

My Fix

My 12 year old daughter was so eager to fix it, she did it herself.

My Advice

Everything you need is in the kit. Easy as it gets!

My Problem

The phone was dropped and shattered the rear panel, but the screen and phone still worked fine. It looked awful covered with tape to hold the guts in.

My Fix

The repair was quick and easy. I like repairing things and was quite disappointed that it was over so quickly. (as are most fun things in life)

My Advice

Watch the video and don't lose the tiny, tiny screws that came with the new back panel. The tiny screwdrivers are cool to keep to remember the experience.(and use again for something else)

My Problem

Real Glass Panel on MY I Phone 4 (Verizon) was broken

My Fix

It was a little hard to remove the panel, looks like it was a little glue holding it to the other parts, after some time trying and trying finally was possible to removed. The placement of the new panel was really easy!!

Thanks!!

I am very Happy!!!

My Advice

Be patient!

Don't give up at the first or second attempt

Actually it is really possible an easy to do it!!

It paid off to have your phone fix and looking great again!!

and even better you did it !! and you didn't expend hundred of dollars with other people.

My Problem

Tape just didn't cut it, because the back glass kept cutting me, even on the edges where tape couldn't reach.

My Fix

I followed along with a youtube video, and had absolutely no problem with the actual replacement or instructions except having to turn the phone off again when I accidentally turned it on while trying to get the screws out.

My Advice

Don't try to do the replacement procedure while there are preschoolers underfoot. They find it far too interesting and want to help with the "kid-sized" tools.

My Problem

The back of my iPhone was badly beat up, and I finally decided to fix it, and I knew I could do it with the $20 repair kit from IFIXIT!

My Fix

The repair went supersmooth, less than 5 minutes!

My Advice

Everything is very easy and straightforward. Just be careful with the screws, they are tiny and delicate!

My Problem

Well I went to get into my car the other day and didn't have my case on my phone. My almost one year old son likes to chew on the case so I let him have it earlier that day. So when I was trying to get in the car I put my phone on the roof, well it slid right off and hit the ground. Cracked the bottom of the back panel

My Fix

The repair was extremely easy. Two screws and the panel pops off.

My Advice

Don't give your baby your phone case.

My Problem

The home button on my verizon iphone 4 was only sporadically working. While it's an old phone I no longer use much, I do give it to one of my kids at crucial times, such as waiting in a long line at the grocery store. Him finding a game he likes usually buys me plenty of time. But with the home button not working all sorts of frustration can set in. Using the Assistive touch feature didn't quite solve the problem, at least not in the hands of my 3 year old. Given that I the iphone was old and cracked on both sides (besides the problematic home button), I decided to look for ways to fix the problem. When iFixit popped up in my search, and when I saw the very explicit and very visual repair guides, I decided to give it a go.

My Fix

I did have some snags, but overall it went really well. Just the process of looking inside and picking apart the iphone was really cool. Opportunely (for me), I misplaced some screws. I had re-installed the home button and was putting things back together. I decided to ignore the missing screw which was one of the four corner ones and finish putting the phone back together. When I found the screw the next day, I decided this was a perfect reason to open up the phone again. At this point, I hope something else goes wrong so I can try to fix it. Anyway, the whole process has been great. The instructions are really great.

My Advice

I bought two pentalobe screwdrivers I found that the one which came in the iFixit repair kit (which was bundled with the new front display) was much better than the Phillips #000 that I bought separately. Also, I had a better flathead screwdriver in my own took box in comparison to either the iFixit Kit's flathead or the Flathead 3/32" that I also bought separately. Basically, the one I had worked better because it was slightly wider than the others. Last piece of advice: If you are at all sloppy (as I am) get one of those magnetic mats. It would have saved me quite a lot of time on my hand and knees looking for stray screws.

My Problem

Older hand me down phone. no Insurance.

My Fix

Very Well!

My Advice

Repair goes as described in online video and instructions.

My Problem

Glass broke

My Fix

Simple as it could be..... less than 10 min

My Advice

Glad to know ifixit has all the stuff I need to do repairs like this and guides to go with it
