My Problem

My wife keeps putting the power plug into her nexus crooked and eventually bent up the plug, so it would not go in.

My Fix

Simple as could be thanks to the pictures that could be enlarged and the step by step instruction that were provided.

My Advice

I won't be afraid of fixing any electronic gadgets from now on. I put a shortcut on my desktop for IFIXIT and will do it myself instead of sending it out and paying big bucks to fix some small item. I'm glad I bought their magnetic screwdriver to to with it though. That made things much easier.

My Problem

My 2011 MacBook pro needed more RAM to run smoothly.

My Fix

Flawless!!! Super easy with the instructions & pretty quick.

My Advice

Separate your screws!

My Problem

My Nexus 5 and Macbook took a spill unto a concrete floor from a railing about 5 feet up.

My Fix

The tools worked perfectly, the repair guide was perfect and everything came out perfect!

My Advice

Don't put expensive, delicate items on railings.

My Problem

My mid 2012 refurbished MBP was downright pokey, constant beach ball of death. It had only the stock 4 gigs of ram.

My Fix

I installed 2- 4 gig sticks with nary a hiccup. The guide was spot on (in some ways superior to Apple's own instructions) but did omit the suggestion to discharge any static charge by touching a metal part. That aside, the job took just 15 minutes or so, and went off splendidly.

My Advice

It's fun and empowering to take charge of my stuff. My advice, go slow, read the instructions before you start and believe in yourself. This was my first attempt at a laptop. Sorry I didn't take any photos.

My Problem

Replace logic board; replace HDD with SSD; move HDD to optical bay; upgrade RAM.

My Fix

All in all, everything went well. Considering that this was my first repair ever, it took me much longer (4-6 hours) than indicated (40-60 mins). Also, during the repair I had to watch a couple of video tutorials on YouTube, because sometimes the guides alone weren't sufficient.

My Advice

To anyone who's going to do this repair, make sure you also get a 5.5 mm Phillips screwdriver. During the repair I came across a step which required this particular screwdriver, but I didn't have one since it wasn't mentioned on the list of required tools of the logic board replacement guide.

Furthermore, there is a Phillips #1 Screwdriver listed as a required tool for this repair, but I didn't use it since I managed to carry out that particular step using a Phillips #00 Screwdriver instead.

Also, at the end of the logic board replacement guide it says: "To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order". This is slightly misleading, simply because in doing so you would omit a very important step, namely to apply new thermal paste first. Therefore, I would advise to either include or refer to the 'Applying Thermal Paste' guide at the end of the logic board replacement guide.

My Problem

The battery on my Slate tablet was in its final throes, so I decided to take to the place of purchase - national chain of office supplies, which hall remain nameless. I hoped they could change the battery there even if I had to wait for them to get one in stock, or they could send it out. I couldn't open it myself because of the tiny screws. Well, the kid looked at it and said they couldn't do anything and if I sent it to HP it would likely cost more to have them service it than it originally cost. I didn't want to give up just like that, so I went back to the internet and after looking at discouraging videos that involved cutting and soldering wires Ifound you guys.

My Fix

I ordered the inexpensive tools from you and a battery from another site, followed the tutorial you have posted, and was done in less than 10 minutes. The battery is charging as I write this, but I can see that the job was a success. Between the tools and the batteries I spent less than $60, which is about a third of what the tablet originally cost, so I'm really happy.

My Advice

The experts aren't always expert, so don't give up. This job was a snap, unlike most of my hardware store undertakings, which usually take 100 times longer than I planned and require at least three trips back to the store.

My Problem

My track pad was not working on my Macbook Pro 2010 mid year version. I took it to a repair shop. The problem was the battery was damaged and was pushing up on the pad. I had them put in a refurbished battery. After using it awhile I was not satisfied with the battery. I decided to work with IFIXIT and replace the battery myself. I usually take all my repairs to my rerpair shop. However, after watching the videos, reading the step-by-step guides and reading coustomer's comments I decided to give the repair myself.

My Fix

I was a little leary when the website said the repair was "easy". For some reason, things are not always easy for me. However, to my surprise, it was easy! The video, the guide and the comments were all helpful. Thank you teammates.

My Advice

Use the website for the tools, videos, guides and comments.

My Problem

My Fix

My Advice

My Problem

The machine only had 1 GB Ram installed

My Fix

Easy : just follow the guide step by step

My Advice

Don't worry, just take your time to follow each step.

My Problem

My white unibody macbook was having problems with the trackpad. After days of searching the internet, trying software fixes, cleaning, checking battery, etc, nothing worked. I finally decided to go for it and buy a new replacement Trackpad with screws, the #00 Phillips Screwdriver, and the Y1 Tri-wing Screwdriver. Total cost with shipping for everything was $96.00.

My Fix

It took me less than 30 minutes to remove the old trackpad, clean around it, and install the new trackpad. My old macbook now works like new - well, at least the trackpad does. Follow the MacBook Unibody Model A1342 Trackpad Replacement guide on the ifixit website, and you will have no problems. Super easy to follow and replace.

My Advice

Take your time, and move slowly. You do not want to do any more damage to your macbook.

I highly recommend buying the Phillips #00 Screwdriver and the Y1 Tri-wing Screwdriver. It is worth it to have the right tools, and you will not damage any of the screws.

Be very careful when removing the wiring ribbons connecting the battery and the trackpad. Break one of these ribbons, and your repair is over until you get a replacement.

I would recommend cleaning around the topcase where the trackpad sits before installing the new one. Dirt, lint, dust, etc trapped here will cause problems for even a brand new trackpad. I cleaned mine with a cotton swab dipped in a little rubbing alcohol.

Don't waste any time trying to repair a faulty trackpad. Just drop $100 with iFixit, and your trackpad will be working like new in 30 minutes. Super easy fix.
