My Problem

Noisy right fan ended up dead

My Fix

Quite easy. Took about half an hour. But the brand new Phillips #0 Screwdriver didn't last - the tip broke off although handled with care - made it difficult to reassemble the machine. A bit annoying.

My Problem

The right fan on my MacBook was running very loudly and had become almost unbearably noisy at full speed.

My Fix

I ordered the replacement fan and the tool kit that was on sale - one cannot have too many tools can one?

The repair went very smoothly - the guides provided online were very descriptive . . .

I first tried to just clean the fan blades, as others on the web have noted. But the blades are fragile and I managed to break one off while cleaning. Even though I was being quite careful.

So I bought a new fan. I decided to replace both fans as both were dirty . . .

My Problem

After 7 years of constant use, right fan bearing was going bad making moaning/grinding noise

My Fix

Slicker than snot on a griddle - 20 min total from start to finish only because some of the tiny Phillips screws were reluctant to go back in.

My Advice

Nothing to add - between the part/spudge and online guides everyth . . .

My Problem

The right fan on my MBP sounded like a chain-wielding demon hampster running on its torture wheel.

My Fix

20 minutes after the parts were delivered, the computer was up and going silently again. Ifixit's instructions were clear and easy to follow.

My Advice

Be careful with all the tape, especially the aluminum/copper . . .
