Samsung Refrigerator Control Board Replacement

Introduction

This guide shows how to remove and replace the control board in your Samsung refrigerator.

The control board controls the refrigerator's functions. It also has a DC power board built into it. If your refrigerator turns on but doesn't function properly, check the components related to the function first. Replace the control board only after you've verified the other components.

This guide will work for most Samsung Refrigerators . This guide is based on a model RF28R7201SG Refrigerator. If you have a different model, you may encounter some minor disassembly differences, but the overall repair process will be the same.

What you need

Step 1 Unplug your refrigerator

Unplug your refrigerator before you begin your repair.
If you are testing or repairing the following items, you may also need to shut off and disconnect the water supply:
Condenser fan motor
Compressor motor and thermal overload device
Water supply valve assembly

Step 2 Remove the board access panel

Remove the screws securing the board access panel to the back of the refrigerator.

Note the locations and number of the connectors on the control board, and photograph them or draw a diagram. This example control board has nine wire connectors:
Three connectors along the top edge
One connector along the right edge
One connector along the bottom edge
Four connectors along the left edge
During reassembly, use your diagram or the photo you took (like the second image here) to make sure you've reconnected all of the connectors.

Step 5 Remove the control board

Pull and disconnect each of the connectors from the control board.
Some connectors may have a locking tab. Squeeze the wide sides of the connector to unlock it, then pull to disconnect it.
Move the wires away from the control board so it can swing out of its recess.
