Samsung RF28R7201SG Refrigerator Evaporator Fan (Refrigerator Compartment) Replacement

Introduction

This guide shows how to remove and replace the evaporator fan or circulation fan in your Samsung RF28R7201SG refrigerator.

The Samsung fridge has two evaporator fans, and this guide is for the fan in the refrigerator compartment. For the freezer evaporator fan, follow this guide instead.

The evaporator fan circulates cold air from the evaporator coils into the refrigerator compartment. If your refrigerator compartment isn't cooling evenly (the back of the compartment gets much colder), you may have a faulty evaporator fan.

What you need

Step 1 Unplug your refrigerator

Unplug your refrigerator before you begin your repair.

Step 2 Open the refrigerator doors

Open both French doors for the refrigerator compartment.

Step 3 Remove the shelves

Remove all the loose shelves and bins from the refrigerator compartment.
The bottom shelf is clipped in place. Follow the next step to remove it.

Two stiff plastic tabs (one on each side) secure the bottom shelf in place.
Press both plastic tabs firmly with your fingers and lift upward to unclip the bottom shelf.
If the shelf doesn't unclip, you can try using a flathead screwdriver to press each clip in.
Remove the bottom shelf.

Step 5 Remove the refrigerator evaporator cover

Use a flathead screwdriver to pry and remove the top screw cover on the evaporator cover.

Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the four screws securing the evaporator cover:
Two 37 mm-long screws
Two 16.5 mm-long screws

Grasp the right edge of the evaporator cover with your hands and swing it outwards toward you.
Don't try to fully remove the cover in this step, as it's connected by several wires.

Squeeze and disconnect the two wire connectors connecting the evaporator cover to the refrigerator.

Pull the evaporator cover towards you and remove it.

Step 10 Remove the evaporator fan

Use a Phillips #2 screwdriver to remove the four 18.5 mm-long screws securing the fan bracket to the evaporator cover.

Guide the fan cable from the cover clips.
If you have trouble getting the cable out of the clips, squeeze the clips with pliers to create a wider gap.

Lift the loose edge of the fan bracket up.

The fan is pressure-fit in place with some foam insulation.
Use your fingers to press the fan out of its recess.

Remove the fan.
During reassembly, be sure to install the fan in the right orientation: the side with the center label should face down, towards the evaporator cover.
