Philips EP 5400 Service Program

Prerequisites for accessing the service program:

The water tank is filled and inserted.

The grounds container and the brewing unit are in place.

If the device has a power switch on the back, it should be set to OFF. If it does not have one, you must unplug the power cord!

Turn the power switch on the back ON or plug the power cord into the outlet. Do not turn it on using the standard "standby" button on the far left.

Now you have 2 seconds to press the four color-coded buttons in an X-pattern: red -> orange -> yellow -> green.

You should hear a beep each time. If the program has started successfully, the display will look like the one in image 2.

The service program has two levels:

First, the screen for testing the buttons appears. In the center, you can see data for the program version, mains voltage, and frequency.

Image 1 shows the screen for testing the buttons. When you touch the corresponding button, the area lights up white.

To reach the screen for testing the components, you must touch the "Standby" button on the far left.

Image 3 shows the new screen.

The black boxes explain which buttons you need to press to test the displayed components.

They respond by the black box turning white. Measured values are displayed in the center, e.g., the temperature, the time for the grinder in milliseconds, or the flowmeter pulses. If the box turns red, it indicates an error.

Example: In image 1, both solenoid valves were switched on; you will hear them click.

If you also switch on the pump, water will flow out and the flowmeter pulses will be displayed. The pump stops after 100 pulses.

The sensors are displayed in the bottom bar. This confirms that there is enough water and the service door is closed.

Here is an important test: heater and thermal sensor:

Press the third button from the left (Americano).

The heater should turn on and the temperature will initially be displayed in black at the top left in the middle. It should increase rapidly and stop at approximately 80°C. Only now will the display turn red, indicating the thermal sensor has triggered.

In this case, the temperature display was immediately red and showed 98°. This made it clear that the thermal sensor was defective. It was replaced and the machine ran again immediately.
