Introduction
Use this guide to replace the battery in a Dyson V7 cordless vacuum. The battery, also called the battery pack or rechargeable battery, powers the vacuum’s motor. Replace it if the vacuum won’t turn on, won’t hold a charge, or has poor battery life. Use a replacement made for the Dyson V7, and match the specifications printed on the original battery.

Step 1 Prepare the vacuum

Disconnect the vacuum from its charger and place it on a stable work surface.

Step 2 Remove the bin and cowl

Open the clear bin.

Remove the cowl from the bin assembly.

Remove the clear bin from the motor unit.

Step 3 Locate the battery screws

Identify the battery pack at the base of the motor unit.

Locate the three Phillips screws that secure the battery to the motor unit.

Locate the screw in the handle above the battery.
-
Locate the two screws near the front of the battery bay.

Step 4 Remove the battery screws

Use a Phillips #2 screwdriver to remove the three battery screws.

Keep the screwdriver fully seated in each screw head to avoid stripping it.

Step 6 Check the replacement battery

Compare the replacement battery with the original battery before installing it.

Match the Dyson V7 specifications printed on the bottom of the original battery.

Step 7 Install the battery

Align the battery pack with the motor unit.

Slide the battery into the motor unit until the screw holes line up.

Use a Phillips #2 screwdriver to reinstall the three battery screws.

Tighten each screw until snug, but don’t overtighten or strip the screw heads.

Step 8 Reinstall the bin and cowl

Reinstall the clear bin on the motor unit.

Reinstall the cowl.

Step 9 Test the vacuum

Press the trigger only after the battery, three screws, bin, and cowl are installed.

Run the vacuum briefly and confirm it powers on.

If the vacuum still doesn’t work, check that the battery, screws, bin, and cowl are fully seated.

After installing a new battery, charge it to 100%, and keep charging it for at least two more hours. Use the vacuum until it shuts off because of a low battery, then charge it uninterrupted to 100%.
