Dell XPS 13 9315 Display Assembly Replacement

Introduction

The display assembly, also known as the screen, is responsible for showing video output from the laptop.

Use the guides of the battery and fan as prerequisites guides before using this guide. Taking out the battery is necessary to remove power from the laptop before working on it and taking out the fan provides more room for the display assembly removal. The display assembly has 16 screws holding it down with most of them being on the hinges. The screw measurements are M1.6x2.3, M1.6x3, M1.6x3.5, and M2.5x4.3.

Disconnect all external power sources prior to beginning this guide. Make sure to power off your laptop completely before proceeding with any steps involving the inner components of the laptop.

There are no special skills or tools required to complete this guide.

What you need

      • Use a T5 Torx screwdriver to remove the eight 3.2 mm-long screws securing the lower case.

      • Insert an opening pick into the seam between the lower case and chassis.

      • Slide the pick around the entire perimeter while prying to disengage the retaining clips.

      • The back cover has 13 retention clips attached to the inside of the laptop making it difficult to open the laptop.

      • Make sure that all clips are disengaged, then remove the lower case.

      • Gently walk the battery connector directly out of its socket.

      • Use a Phillips #0 screwdriver to remove the two screws securing the fan.

      • Flip up the black locking flap securing the fan cable.

      • Disconnect the fan cable.

      • The back of the laptop after following the prerequisite guides

      • Locate and unscrew the M1.6x3.5 screws on the LCD display connector.

      • Remove the display assembly interposer board from the system board

      • Locate the screws on the hinges on both sides of the laptop for removal.

      • Unscrew the six M2.5x4.3 screws on both sides of the laptop.

      • Unscrew the two M1.6x3 screws on both sides of the laptop.

      • Unscrew the two M1.6x2.5 screws on both sides of the laptop.

      • On both sides of the laptop, firmly grip the highlighted area and pull the hinge up to free the display assembly.

      • Remove the four M1.6x2.3 Phillips screws

      • Pull the back cover away from the display assembly after the removal of the screws
