Background and Identification
The 7th generation iPad mini was announced on October 15th, 2024 in an Apple press release. It's a minor refresh over the recently-redesigned 6th generation from 2021: it keeps an identical industrial design, the same screen, the same size battery, the same cameras, and retains Touch ID.
The iPad mini 7 gains seven key upgrades over its predecessor:
- It adopts the iPhone 15 Pro's A17 Pro SoC (to help bolster its neural processing for Apple Intelligence support)
- It sports double the ram (8 GB, up from 4 GB)
- It uses a faster USB-C port (10 Gb/s, up from 5 Gb/s)
- It has updated connectivity (Wi-Fi 6E & BT 5.3, up from Wi-Fi 6 & BT 5.0)
- It now has Apple Pencil Pro support
- It comes with the base storage (for the same price)
- It comes in a new blue color
The iPad mini 7 comes in Space Gray, Starlight, Blue, or Purple, and can be configured with 128, 256, or 512 GB of internal storage. It has two connectivity configurations: Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi + Cellular. The cellular model now only supports eSIM, not compatible with physical SIM cards anymore.
The iPad mini 7 keeps its $499 starting price.
