Identification and Background ¶

The Nintendo 3DS XL was released on July 28, 2012 in Japan, and was released on August 19, 2012 in North America. Just like its DS, DS Lite, DSi, and DSi XL predecessors, the 3DS XL features two screens and comes with a stylus to use on the touch-sensitive lower screen. The main defining features of the 3DS XL are the widescreen 3D upper screen, the Circle Pad analog joystick, two rear-facing cameras to capture 3D photos, and a revised layout of the Start, Select, and power buttons. When comparing the Nintendo 3DS XL to a Nintendo 3DS you will find that main difference is that the Nintendo 3DS XL has a larger upper and lower screen size by over 1". On the Nintendo 3DS XL the headphone jack is found underneath the D-Pad unlike the Nintendo 3DS where the headphone jack is found in the middle of the device. The Nintendo 3DS XL has backwards compatibility with all DS games making it a great upgrade to anyone already familiar with Nintendo products.
