Background and Identification
The Huawei Mate 40 Pro was released on November 1st, 2020 starting at a price point of €1,199/$1,499 USD. It is the second cheapest Mate 40 model out a line of four, the Mate 40, the Mate 40 Pro, the Mate 40 Pro+ & the Mate 40 RS Porschedesign and the only representative Huawei released in the EU yet.
It features a 6.76 inch OLED screen and was treated with a 90Hz refresh rate we didn’t see in its predecessor, the Mate 30 Pro. Besides a glass front and a glass back (Mystic Silver, White & Black) the Mate 40 Pro offers an eco leather option (green & yellow) for the rear side of the phone. The 13 MP, ƒ/2.4, 18mm (ultrawide) front facing camera moved from a notch to a dual selfie punch hole cutout in the top left corner of the screen. The battery of the Mate 40 Pro jumped down from 4500 mAh in the Mate 30 Pro to 4400 mAh. Huawei justifies this with a more balanced and lower power consumption of the Kirin 9000 5G chipset. Additionally the phone offers the option of 66W fast charging, 50W wireless fast charging and 5W reverse wireless charging.
