Hi, my name is Dominik and I've been working at iFixit since 2016. My journey at iFixit began with a one-week temp job in the shipping warehouse. Thanks to my photography and editing experience, I was asked if I might enjoy working on the EU content team. So I transitioned from shipping to the content department where I now create guides and work on teardowns for devices like the iPhone 12 mini, the Apple TV 4K 2021, and the Nothing ear (1). With my graphic design background, I'm always trying to make guides and teardowns look even better by giving them a little bit more magic.
After graduating from school, I studied communication design at the State Academy of Art and Design in Stuttgart, Germany for 8 years and got my university degree there. During my studies I was involved in graphic design, editorial design, illustration, photography, printing, bookbinding techniques, and typography. The Adobe Creative Cloud is therefore my constant companion. In addition to my job at iFixit, I have worked as a freelance graphic designer and illustrator since 2019.
Prior to my permanent position, I worked at iFixit Europe for almost 5 years as an intern, creating guides and teardowns. Along the way, I worked with my team to continuously improve the quality of our content. During my time at iFixit I have authored over 400 guides and teardowns and contributed to more than 2,000 on our website.
My favorite fix is an ongoing project, as I'm currently busy restoring and rebuilding my dad's 1974 Hercules MK3M without any prior knowledge.
Aside from that, I was insanely proud to open and reassemble my shared flat’s washing machine after I thought it was a good idea to wash a shower curtain without first removing the hanging hooks (don’t do that!). One of the hooks disappeared into the depths of the washing machine, leaving me with a horrible noise as the drum spun. Since I had only dealt with tiny electronics before, this repair, which is rather simple in itself, took away my fear of disassembling and repairing large appliances. These experiences have shown me that really anyone can repair and should have the right to do so and I am happy to contribute to the process of making repair more accessible and easier for everyone!
Besides my work at iFixit, I'm currently doing a lot of illustrations, both freelance and personal. I'm a sports enthusiast and during the summer you can usually find me outside playing table tennis, frisbee, or something similar. My biggest passion — which accompanies me all year round — is bouldering. There are few things that leave me with a better feeling than finally solving a bouldering project after many sessions. I am a big experimental cooking fan, I read books from time to time (preferably Haruki Murakami) and daydream about my distant future dog!

Dear Chuck Smith,
you're completely right. The photos in this step were in wrong order. I changed the order and the color to black for easier understanding. I'm very sorry the flap of your connector broke off.
The only suggestion I can give is to push the ribbon cable as far into the connector as possible and test if you're able to turn on the display (do this before resealing). If you're able to bring the cable in the right position and the display turns on, you can try to tape it to the connector with kapton tape or a similar strong tape (like it was before with the black tape). Try to tape the cable tight to the connector. Otherwise there might be some play for it to move and loose connection.
Hallo Derzocker39,[br]
Hi Evocativekitsune,
I wouldn't advise to do that. It happens often that dust finds its way underneath the phone case and therefore straight into your phone. I suggest to use at least some regular double sided tape (you can cut it in small strips by yourself) to glue the back cover selectively back onto the midframe. It's still not the best protection however it's better than a completely loose cover. Don't forget to remove the old adhesive backings before applying new adhesive!
Hi Ryan,
the warning applies more in relation to a removed battery than to one which was only disconnected. A removed one could be bent or have other damages that are not immediately visible and could cause damage to the mouse, fire or a thermal event or may leak dangerous chemicals. However, this is not necessarily the case, but there is always the possibility. That is why we warn and point this out within the repair guide.
Hi Justin,
thanks for mentioning. That one got overlooked during guide creation!
Hi Andrei,
if you want to replace the battery there is only one in the left side of the headphones you need to replace.
Hi Zachary,
in order to assure that the rear glass sticks to the rest of the phone assembly you have to replace the rear glass adhesive once you removed the rear glass. However you can use a narrow and strong double sided tape, tesa tape or our precut adhesive card. All of these will do their job however as you just mentioned you will lose the water protection of your phone. Before installing all of these it is very important to remove the old adhesive backings (for example with high isopropyl alcohol 90% or higher).
Sadly it's not possible to replace the rear glass without new adhesive.
Hallo Gleichlaufartisten Live,
wenn du die Kappe am unteren Ende mit Hilfe deiner Ladestation gelockert hast, solltest du durch leichtes weiterdrehen und ziehen die Kappe entfernen können.
Hi Neil,
we have a general “How to apply custom-cut adhesive strips” guide which might help you.
Hi Kashyap,
sadly nothing doesn’t offer any replacement parts for the ear(1). You can try to dry the charging case to see if it’s still working. However if not, you might find some replacement parts in the internet, otherwise you possibly need to get a new one.
