HP Mini 311

Identification and Background

The HP Mini 311 was first available on April 9, 2007. At a fair price, this laptop offers greater resolution then a lot of other netbooks and offers nVidia ION graphics. While this wasn't anything to write home about back then, these chipsets are signifigantly more powerful then the Intel GMA chipsets found in other netbooks. While many netbooks struggle with HD video playback, this issue was not present with the Mini 311. The nVidia ION chipset can also handle light gaming.

With 6 hours of battery life, this portable laptop is great for on the go. It runs Windows 7 with a 1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 or N280 processor and features 2 GB of RAM and 160 GB hard drive compared to previous HP mini laptops. This netbook also features a 11" screen, which set it out from the pack at the time. Along with being a standout upgrade, it also helped make the Mini 311 more usable then 8-10" counterparts.

This is also one of the few netbooks that can take more then 2GB of RAM. This netbook support 3GB of RAM, which is accomplished with a 2GB RAM stick+1GB soldered to the motherboard.
