HP Mini 311

Identification and Background ¶

The HP Mini 311 was first available on April 9, 2007. At a fair price, this laptop offers greater resolution then a lot of other netbooks and offers the nVidia ION graphics chipset. This wasn't anything to write home about back then, but it gave iGPU netbooks a run for their money since most netbooks with N270/N280 processors struggled with HD video, if it worked at all. It could also handle light gaming, being a low power chipset. With 6 hours of battery life, this portable laptop is great for on the go. It runs Windows 7 with a 1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 or N280 processor and features 2 GB of RAM and 160 GB hard drive compared to previous HP mini laptops.

This is also one of the few netbooks that can take more then 2GB of RAM. This model can take 3GB, which gives it a usability advantage today compared to most netbooks. This machine has achieved this by soldering 1GB to the board. The owner can add a 2GB SODIM to the notebook and have 3GB of RAM in the system. This netbook also features a 11" screen, which set it out from the pack at the time. It was one of the first 11" netbooks on the market. This made the Mini 311 more usable then the 8-10" models for a lot of people.
