Background
The ASUS TUF FX505DD is a gaming laptop that carries out both productivity and gaming usage at an affordable price. Released in 2019, the FX505DD is part of the larger laptop line, the TUF (The Ultimate Force) series. The TUF series gets its name by providing MIL-STD-810G military-grade standard quality. During its release, it was positioned to be considered a higher-end laptop compared to the others in the TUF line. This gaming laptop comes with the AMD Ryzen 7 3750H 4-core processor, the popular NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 3GB graphics card, 8GB of DDR4 RAM that is expandable to 32GB, and 512GB of SSD storage. In addition, the FX505DD comes with a 15.6-inch 60Hz IPS screen as well as additional features such as: an RGB backlit keyboard, webcam, and built-in speakers.
This particular configuration, listed at $1299 CAD by most retailers, was meant primarily for intermediate and advanced gamers. Admittedly, the laptop, similar to other gaming laptops, faces both overheating and battery-life issues over time due to its high power consumption. While being primarily for gamers, the laptop was capable of more robust work or applications that required higher-end specifications like digital designing and content creation. It was sold in many different countries, including Canada, the U.S.A., and India, and was distributed by many major retailers such as Best Buy and Amazon. While the numbers of its sales haven’t been publicly released, its high number of reviews and sellers, mass availability, and manufacturer’s reputation, one can assume it produced high sales numbers. The laptop has since been discontinued.
Identification
There are a few ways to identify this particular gaming laptop. Physically, the laptop has a 15.6-inch screen size with a 6.5mm bezel. The lid of the laptop has the company logo “ASUS” on it with an “X” design around it. As for its finish, it has a brushed metal finish. The dimensions of the laptop are 36.0 cm in width, 26.2 cm in depth, and 2.5-2.6 cm in height, with a weight of 2.20 kg. When trying to distinguish it from other models, look for the same “X” design on the lid and a hexagonal-style pattern at the bottom of the laptop. Additionally, the keyboard will light up when turned on, and the “WASD” keys are different compared to the other keys as their keys are white. The model number can be found on the bottom of the laptop. Finally, the FX505DD comes in three different colour models: Gold Steel, Stealth Black, and Red Matter. To identify the laptop’s configuration, simply turn on the laptop, go to settings, and click on “About PC.”
