Retrieving undeleted emails from dead laptop.

Hi, I have a 12" Aluminium PowerBook G4 which has a broken a/c powerport and can't be turned on. I basically only used it for ebay and emails and have to somehow retrieve the hundreds of emails that I did not delete. Is there some way to do this?

Yes - pull the Hard Drive, & put it in an external case you can then access the files (even transfer your entire user account) to a newer Mac. via Setup Assistant or Migration Assistant.

Or, if you know the location of the data you wish to retrieve you can recover just that data manually via drag & drop. Merging an old and new email messags/addresses vary and can be complicated depending upon your email client (application).

Old OS 9 apps will not work on brand new Macs, but will work on Macs of a certain age.

Brilliant. Please bear with me as I don't know a thing about computers. I have a iBook G4 of that vintage, will that do? It has OS X (Version 10.4) on it. Is there much of a risk that the store of emails may be lost?

What is written on the drive will stay on it. Finding an external case for that type of drive is not difficult, You can open and remove the drive using our Guide... OR go to a local computer/electronics shop and pay them to do it for you. They may be able to (or recommend someone to) help you transfer your files. If backups of your email data are not made on separate meida (thumb drive/cd/dvd) before attempting to transfer them they could be accidentally destroyed! This is not the sort of process that can easily be described - seek local face-to-face help.
