Home button not working after getting wet

I phone 3gs got a little wet and now the home button does not function. Phone has been sitting for awhile and im positive its dried out (4mnths). I took apart another working iphone 3gs and put its screen(including home button)in the broken one and still no response(and vice versa the working phone worked with old screen/HB). So im positive its not the actual home button. so im at a standstill till i can figure out what else it could be, Ive hear that the dock, dock conn. or the dock houseing could be the issue but how to you know which it is? Any thoughts?

Thanks!

If the phone has had water exposure many times you will have to remove the front glass and clean the contact points between the flex cable and the dock connector contact points with 91 % alcohol. inspect the prongs on the flex cable to ensure neither one is bent or broken off.

Im having the same issue but with a friends 3g, are your water indicators red? this will help give an indication as to where the water has got into the phone. I have replaced home button, and the dock connector although the bottom indicator is still white (its the top one that shows red.) I believe the fault is to do with the motherboard and there are some guides on-line to removing water debris using surgical spirit. Unfortunately my friend wont let me try this so he's stuck. Although the above didn't work for me it it might for you. Good luck
