ive lived in china for about 3 years and just recently moved back to canada. in china i used a proxy for visiting facebook, youtube ect.. but my proxy recently expired and my web browsers dont want to work without it

Most likely you need to enter System Preferences:Network->Location and remove the China location then create a new location or use "Automagic" so that the proxy requirement is eliminated.
