@ffking got to love your computer for doing this. At least it stops you from overheating your processor. Now, you need to determine why it does this. First off you want to check the air inlet for any major debris. Remove the bottom cover and clean all the air inlet slots with some Air-in-a-can and a soft brush. Then check the fan for any debris, occlusion etc. your must clean that as well.

It is absolutely possible that this could also be a failed fan. Use the HP 15s Du0000 Maintenance And Service Guide to replace it. Do not forget to repaste your heatsink thermal paste as well. Once your computer threatens to overheat, it will always be beneficial to do that. Use something like this guide How to Apply Thermal Paste to get that done
