Why my MacBook Pro is shutting down?

2009 macbook pro 15 inch

4gb ram

320gb harddrive

took it to the apple store the other day because of random shut downs they told me it was error 128 which was the memory so i went home and took the memory out and put it back in myself. when i say random shut down i mean i could be typing this and bam nothing no warning just a shut down.

all you hear is click and wish the whole thing turns off no response until power is pressed.

the battery only has 24 cycles on it but the dvd drive does not work and the backlight is on its way out in certain ares on the keyboard

i tested the ram in each slot back and forth and it boots every single time.

what i did just do was run memtest and it comes back in two seconds that everything is okay with 2 passes. so i don't understand.

any help would be amazing!!!

In addition answer these questions: What happens when you power it up and not do anything (just letting it sit there)? Does it restart on its own? Are you using it with the charger plugged in or off of batteries? Any difference?
