Scope of software-based guides on iFixit

Hi everyone,

I'd like to get the community's feedback regarding software-based guides on iFixit, specifically basic operating system navigation guides like "How to do a power option on a Mac."

Since iFixit's primary mission focuses on physical hardware repair, I wanted to ask where the community draws the line for software content. Are basic OS navigation guides helpful and appropriate for the platform, or should software guides be reserved for tasks directly tied to hardware troubleshooting and repair?

Thanks for your input!

@ahmadawick this “software guides be reserved for tasks directly tied to hardware troubleshooting and repair” is the intent. There will always be exceptions but those will usually be handled by moderators /moderation.

We want to leave these “basic OS navigation guides” for other forums that deal with the actual OS

We want to avoid OEM’s from not letting us use our devices based on OS’s that are no longer supported etc. If we can continue to use devices by installing Linux or other OS, a guide for that type of software will meet our criteria.
