A1229 high rez display compatible with A1261 logic board?

Here's my issue--

I need to replace the front bezel on a 17" A1261 MacBook Pro Penryn 2.6GHz. I've already sourced the back panel but I'm having a ^!@% of a time finding the front bezel. This particular model has the high rez LED backlit display and from what I can gather the bezel from the non-LED versions of the display are slightly different from the LED versions and are not compatible. Despite scouring the eBay and the internet for weeks I have been unable to find this part by itself. That means the only other option is to replace the entire display assembly itself. I have found a reasonably priced complete LCD assembly from the 17" A1229 Santa Rosa model. It is the high rez version as well but I believe the A1229 models are CCFL backlit, not LED. So.... has anyone attempted this type of backwards install? Judging from the photos it appears that the connectors for the logic board are identical and I know Apple originally offered the LED screen as an upgrade over the CCFL version which seems to indicate that it should be compatible. Anyone?
