Assuming you're referring to the Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) - more commonly known as the "check engine" light - you will need to scan the car's computer to find out what set the light on, then fix whatever is wrong with it and at that point you can safely reset the light so it doesn't just come right back on again.

Here in the US, most auto parts stores will scan your car's computer for free; they're hoping to be able to sell you parts, of course. Otherwise, there are plenty of sources for inexpensive OBD-II scanners available online; you can get them as cheaply as under $5 USD for a bluetooth dongle that connects to a free app you can download on your phone. Look for an ELM327 compliant dongle then you can go online and find an OBD-II reader app; most of them that do basic scanning and resetting of trouble codes are free; I personally use one called Torque.

So get your car scanned however you can, then come back and give us a list of any and all trouble codes you find. At that point we can probably point you in the right direction regarding what you need to do to fix the problem.
