How to replace display hinges?

I currently daily drive an HP elitebook 1030 g8, and have recently noticed that he hinges have seriously deteriorated! To the point where several angles beyond 150 degrees will cause the display to fall flat.

I have 2 other systems that may provide me with the parts to solve this issue:

Elitebook 1030 g4
Elitebook 830 g8

If either of these are suitable for a replacement, and you know the method to engage this process please help!
I also do need directions on how to execute this repair because little/no repair material is available online.

Thanks for the support!

Hi!

To change the hinges, there's two ways.

Either (the more common) is to replace the whole top section with both frame and display. If you would want to do that then HP's maintenance and service manual should suffice, I've linked you to the display disassembly section.

If pdf link breaks, you can find the maintenance and service manual among the manuals and guides on HP's Support page for your device.

The other way is by replacing just the hinges. You would then need to follow the maintenance and service manual to take of the display assembly, and then you would also need to remove the monitor from the frame, which HP EliteBook x360 1030 G3 Screen Replacement shows how to do (similar model). I also found this Youtube video which shows the same thing.

Where to find parts is something we does not always do, as availability and different region means that a market for me likely won't work for you. So my recommendation would be to use your favorite search engine and search for "HP elitebook 1030 g8 hinges / screen assembly / display replacement" in ordered to get localized results that works for you.

Good luck with this,

Cheers

@meekvixen just add the complete document to your answer. Then we don't have to worry about link rot in a few years/months or whenever the OEM decide to retire the link :-) HP EliteBook X360 1030 G8 Maintenance And Service Guide
