Washing machine sounds like a jet engine

I have a Whirlpool WTW7120HW0 top load washer that’s making a very loud noise on the spin cycle. Not a clunking or banging sound. Is this something I can fix or should a technician look at it?

The washing machine is still working the way it should but the spin cycle is very loud. Only on spin cycle, not on wash or fill cycles. The machine sounds like a jet engine preparing to take off

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Hi @andr100

Here's the tech sheet for the washer.

Check the Fault History as described on p.3 to see if any error codes have been stored e.g. possibly an F7 E1 (tachometer signal missing) or an F7 E7 (motor unable to reach target rpm)

If there are any error codes in fault history, the error codes and their meaning and possibles causes are on p.8 → p.10.

If there are no error codes stored, run the diagnostic test cycle and check if an error code now shows.

If you find the problem and it's a faulty part that needs replacing, here's the parts list that is useful.

Locate the wanted part in the list and note the part number associated with the part. Search online for the part number only, to find suppliers that suit you best.

If you search on YouTube for (insert wanted part number) replacement, sometimes if you're lucky, you'll find videos showing how to remove/replace the part
