ps3 slim database rebuild

someone let me know what it means when attempting an OSU from the PS official site and it fails to proceed through the OSU as this has happened on numerous occasions and even within 12h period and my in law has said that it is the HDD that is at fault and not the console so how do get the console back to the way it was so am able to retrieve the data

Can you please share screenshots with us? Is the console turning on at all? As in, loading the software? What kind of error are you having? Do you have the error code for us?
