The second iteration of Apple's full-sized smart speaker. Released on January 18, 2023 in both Midnight or White.

The HomePod just turns on by itself

My HomePod 2nd Generation switches on by itself, completely randomly. I also feel that the touch surface does not respond optimally — the minus (-) control is noticeably less sensitive than the plus (+). I have already tried a factory reset, unfortunately without success.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Hi!

I'm afraid that the touch surface is having issues here...

You can follow this guide to get there: HomePod 2: Small Changes Make a Big Difference - iFixit

Unfortunately it's hard to find this part online.

You can buy a broken (donor) Homepod and get the part from there.

Siri has the tendency to respond when we don't summon her/him. The sound pattern of one's voice can come from other sources! Like your radio or TV. My dog sometimes cry's setting Siri off! It drives him nuts when she responds.

Make sure the HomePod is not too close to other sound sources and not blocked by objects that could distort the audio input of it's microphones.

The control touch surface might need a bit of cleaning as skin oil and other junk could interfere with its sensitivity. Dampen a micro cloth lightly and then wipe the surface with a good quality window cleaner, don't spray the HomePod as you don't want the cleaner to seep into the cloth surface.

If that doesn't help and you have AppleCare for the unit visit Apple to get it fixed.
