The Chevrolet Silverado is a line of trucks under the Chevrolet brand and manufactured by General Motors. Mechanically, the GMC Sierra and Chevrolet Silverado are identical.

No oil pressure, sounds rough when running

Ok trying to help a friend. She lost oil pressure. Everything looked EXACTLY the same as when my 2009 ksilverado 2500hd lost oil pressure. If you reved the engine a little pressure would climb. On mine, new oil pump n she's running like the 508k mile beast that she is. Hers? Replaced oil pump, did oil change, now NO pressure showing plus sounds like crap. Primed pump, so not the issue. Replaced screen and pressure sensor. Still nothing. Don't have adaptor to check for actual oil pressure with my gauge. Pickup tube oring is great. Pickup tube screen clean. AFM Pressure relief valve looks ok but unsure how to test. We are running out of ideas fast, and she doesn't have alot of money. Really wanna keep this truck running for her because as much as she hates this truck, it belonged to her late husband so has alot of sentimental value.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Hi @brandon_k

Here's a link to the 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Repair Manual + Wiring Diagram. that may help.

Click on Engine Mechanical 6.2L¹ and then scroll to p.51 of 649. It shows how to test the AFM oil pressure relief valve.

¹ I assumed that this is the correct engine for a 2500 Silverado but maybe not.

Cheers

Update (12/09/25)

Hi @ungabunga04

Can only think that it may be a blockage in the engine oil gallery somewhere.

Looking at the 6.2L engine service manual there are oil gallery plugs in the front, rear and both sides of the engine - see p.26 (of 649).

You may have to pour some more in through different plugs and check if it drains back to the sump

Helper at the company I work at says it opened with just a few psi. Seems real weak to me so we replaced it too. Still no joy. Really thinking a cam bearing spun or something similarly catastrophic.

@brandon_k

try searching for cardiagn.com and see if you get in that way.

If you do, look for GMC Silverado and then scroll down and select the 2008 service repair manual. There's none for a 2009 year so this was the closest.

From memory there are two listings - one's an "off line" listing where you have to go to a download site and download the entire manual (i think as I didn't try) and the other should open with links to the various sections

Select Engine Mechanical 6.2L section.

If it doesn't open and load a pdf after a say 10 seconds refresh the page

@jayeff as the helper working on the truck here, the oil pump was primed and replaced, the oil pan pressure relief valve was replaced, the pickup tube oring was lubed and replaced, the oil pressure sensor was replaced, the oil filter was replaced and filled, 6 quarts of fresh oil was put in with a little sea foam, I confirmed that the pickup tube has no cracks, and I confirmed that the oil gauge on the instrument cluster is working. I replaced the new oil pump that was initially installed and noticed that there was no oil in the pump, even after pulling the alan key plug in the side of the engine block and priming it through there. This second oil pump I installed I put oil in it and physically spun it by hand and watched it move oil so it should be making at least some kind of pressure and pulled that alan plug in the side of the engine block and made sure to fill that with oil as well. I'm thinking that a bearing spun or something of equal severity as there's nothing else I can think of.
