2.2 GHz (Turbo Boost up to 3.4 GHz), 2.5 GHz (Turbo Boost up to 3.7 GHz), or 2.8 GHz (Turbo Boost up to 4.0 GHz) quad-core Intel Core i7 processor with 6 MB shared L3 cache and an optional AMD Radeon R9 M370X dGPU.

What happened here with the screen?

2015 MBP 15" (A1398) 2.8 Ghz (DG)

The screen suddenly went a faded light green silvery color, and it goes lighter until it fades out like I am in a fog. Rebooted and now it is a shade of light purple. GPU or LCD issue? @danj for the good news.

I reset PRAM & SMC but to no avail. This has truly made my day.

Connect to an external display what does that show you?

by

@danj External is OK, trying with another display (2015) in the morning to confirm the LCD has gone.... £175 for a complete brand new assembly :(

by

@danj It looks like it is the screen that has committed suicide, to much hassle to swap over a display to 100% confirm from my 2.5 GHz working model, so I will downgrade to that or now until a new assembly arrives.

LCD or rather I think it is something to do with the reflector sheets behind the LCD, as when it boots up, the colors change like a wave effect from usual to green then purple to pink then the fog sets in. Either way a new assembly is required here as these sheets are probably very hard to come by and a nightmare to attempt to replace, it will probably break the LCD in the removal process. Anyways, I have found a complete brand new assembly for a 'reasonable' price.

Sorry not likely a sheet issue, your symptoms are more likely encountering a bad T-CON board within the lid display there is a small logic board which converts the eDP/iDP signals from the logic board to what the displays uses to create the image across the matrix of the LCD cells to allow light to shine. Which the wave of colors is telling me. We often encounter a Chroma effect as well.
