Joystick doesn't go all the way... Sometimes?

I noticed that sometimes, when holding left on my controller's joystick, my character would stop moving, or at least slow down considerably. I thought this could maybe be some sort of drift, but... It's kind of the opposite?

I took a video from hardwaretester.com/gamepad to better show what I've been going through.

For most of that video, I'm just holding the joystick fully left, with very slight up/down movements, but you'll see that it randomly loses intensity, and other than that, it doesn't seem to have any drift.

I found a guide teaching how to clean the sensors from a controller, and I was going to try that, but my controller is a 3rd party switch controller, and has been since discontinued... Only to say that I'm not entirely sure how to remove the motherboard from it in order to access the sticks, as it seems stuck somewhere.

However, when I opened it, I noticed these white spots on the motherboard, I don't know what these are, so I thought I'd share a picture of those too, in case they might be the cause.

I don't know what to do about this, is there any way to repair it? I rather liked this controller, it fit my hands perfectly, so I'm kinda sad to see it go even if it was rather cheap.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

@mutefoxxy those "white spots" stains are caused by liquid damage. That is corrosion. Stands to reason you may have shorted a few components. However, once you have removed the board, clean it with some high grade isopropyl alcohol (somewhere in the 90% range) Check the components for obvious damage.

Did you remove all the screws from the board? Did you release all the caps etc. from the front? Any paddles still engaged?

Hi!

To be honest, it’s broken already… so I would disassemble it anyway to check. Most likely you need to replace the joysticks to get it fixed again. This requires soldering. So if you have the equipment and skills, I would try to replace it and see how that works out.

Otherwise, you could bring it to a local repair shop and ask them to do it for you.

I’m afraid that there isn’t any other option to open it up and replace them.

So, I've opened it as you can see on the linked picture, but the motherboard is tightly stuck to the rest of the gamepad, and I can't figure out how I'd remove it to get access to the sticks

Do you see any screws? If not, please try to pry it up carefully. It should get out somehow. Please check for clips and see if something isn’t stuck!
