the laptop is swelling to the upper right side of the touch pad, just below the keyboard. It is quite swollen and the laptop won't close properly. it is safe to use it?
As far as my expertise goes this would only be cause by the battery.
any suggestions.

@richardquintero that sounds about right. Best thing is to take it apart and have a look at it. Replace the battery ASAP of course. Since iFixit does not yet have a guide for this, see if something like this video helps you to get into your computer.
While you work on your phone, take lots of pictures. Once you are done with it, take those pictures and create a guide for iFixit.
