The screen glass is pretty hardy; it's not that easy to scratch. I use either an X-Acto knife or a single edge razor blade to slide under the screen protector and go along the edges until all of the adhesive has released. You won't damage the screen itself, although you may crack the screen protector in the process; that's usually not an issue since the main reason for taking one off is because it's broken.
