Repair guides, disassembly, and troubleshooting information for the fifth generation Sony PlayStation 5 DualSense controller. Identified by model number CFI-ZCT1W and motherboard model BDM-050.

How do I replace the L2 and R2 buttons?

The L2 and R2 seem to be different from earlier versions of the controller. I don’t see the pins that are described in prior versions, so am having difficulty removing them.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Jason, the L2 and R2 triggers on the Dual Sense guides can be found here:
Ifixit button guide - Follow this guide until step 26

then reference this YouTube video of L2 and R2 replacement and cleaning instructions

Notes about this fix:

The L2 and R2 triggers contact the membrane located on the black plastic mid-frame assembly, similarly to all the face buttons

If cleaning (ifixit carries this cleaning kit) the membrane does not resolve your issue, the replacement part can be found here from Mobile Sentrix.

For future reference, the dual-sense edge controller uses Hall effect triggers, which never fail before the rest of the controller.

I hope you find this helpful, and feel free to reach out with any questions or issues you encounter.

Thank you. I figured it out and found there is a gear with rod that secures the L2 button down. My son managed to shear the rod off. Now to find a replacement piece.

Thank you. It’s for a BDM-050 so those parts aren’t compatible. I’m sure I’ll be able to find them though. Looks like I’m only finding them if purchased with the entire mid-frame though.

@jasoncornell best of luck if all else fails, your local repair shop might have parts from an otherwise unreapirable controller :)
